Mediation + Conflict Resolution (Level 1)
This interactive and stimulating 2 day course will assist professionals to explore conflict and impart the essential principles and process of mediation. The structured 5-step mediation model and specific conflict resolution skills will be presented + practiced. The course can be utilised in many different areas of conflict e.g. client work, workplace disputes and interpersonal conflict.
Members of the APS, the AASW + ACWA may also receive CPD hours toward their professional development requirements.
NB/ We can facilitate in-house training workshops virtually via Zoom or F2F (in-person).
Learning Outcomes
- Identify factors contributing to possible causes of conflict and barriers to resolution.
- Identify the different levels of conflict and approaches to conflict situations.
- Identify the conditions under which mediation is an appropriate intervention and how it differs from the counselling process.
- Identify where mediation fits as an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process.
- Identify the skills, qualities and attitudes that a mediator requires.
- Identify the underlying concepts and principles of the mediation process.
- Identify and demonstrate an understanding of the 5-stage mediation model.
- Identify the various cultural considerations when mediating with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) or Indigenous communities/ families.
- Identify and demonstrate characteristics of a mindful mediator.

Advanced Mediation (Level 2)
This engaging and interactive course is aimed at those who already have an understanding + practical experience of the mediation process. The course will focus on advanced issues and aims to refine + update workers skills, practices and theoretical perspectives used to mediate in various areas of conflict.

Learning Outcomes
- Identify mediation obstacles + challenges in mediation and how to overcome these.
- Explore and deepen your understanding of the purpose, techniques + skills required for each stage of the mediation process.
- Identify factors that contribute to a successful mediation outcome (including the intake assessment, power, etc.).
- Identify variations of the mediation process (eg. shuttle mediation, separate sessions, use of interpreters).
- Identify mediation theories and how these can be applied to the process.
- Identify in further detail the various cultural considerations when mediating with CALD or Indigenous communities/ families.
- Identify and demonstrate the characteristics of a mindful + reflective mediator.

Conflict Intelligence + Mediation Skills
Conflict Intelligence® (CI) is a new innovation in the dispute resolution field that integrates the synergetic fields of Conflict Resolution, Emotional Intelligence, Psychology and Mindfulness. Conflict Intelligence® is a simple, yet powerful, model that develops one’s ability to consciously connect with and manage conflict by building collaborative understanding. It is about increasing one’s CI awareness, insight + skills.

Mastering Negotiation Skills
This 1-day training workshop will explore the 7 elements of preparing and conducting effective negotiations (based on the Harvard Business Review model). It will also highlight the psychology of negotiation, the physiology of conflict and the impact of perceptual positions. The essential negotiation skills will be explored + practiced in a supportive environment. This course will assist those attending to understand the negotiation process, to gain greater confidence and to build collaborative relationships + successful negotiation outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
- Gain proficiency in the 7 elements of preparing + facilitating effective negotiations, following the Harvard Business Review model.
